Italy has been on the point, by nls patriotte and dlslnteresed efforts, to be emancipateti; despal-ring of an iuunediate opportunlty to serve hls Country and tur common Cause he intends to visit the United Statesi and althongh it is probable I may be there before bim, I deem it as an honour and a gratificatìon for me to present toyòn my friend in these lines, to which I shall only add my affectlo-nate respects.

Havtng reasons to belleve that I bave been -unfortunte in my eorrespon-dence with you. I beg leave first to refer (?) to your honoured favoni-, of De­cember lst, 1824, and to exehange such informa tlons as are relative to the in-teresting pnrpose of that letter.
Althongh the rapidity of my progress through the 24 States of the Union has made me rather an inefficient promoter of any vièwe that mlght reqnire a more sedate situation, I nave not lost sight of the laudable intentlons expressed by you, my dear Sir, and other friends of the exceìlent late Major Cartwright. Inipressed as I am myself wlth a respectful and affectionate sense of bis exalted virtues, for which bis memory must be endeared to every generous mind, I had of course the gratlflcatìon to find correspondlng feelings in the U. jS., bnt it was the opinion of respectabie advisers whom I consulted In severa! places, that a subscrlption for the monument conia not at that moment be set up to advantage. Stnce which ttrae not a line has been recelved from Bngland that would encourage the measure in forelgn ountries.
