Dear Friend, I send the receipt signed. I shall endeavour to have ano ther from Mad. Mario; only, she was two weeks ago at Milan, she is now in Naples, and she may be elsewhere next week. I will take time.
Your arti ci e in the Counsellor is very good.
We shall talk abont onr prospecty when yon come back from Manchester. Unless unforeseen events urge ns on, the year will pass on quietly. But we want arms or money for the new year. Do what yon can to persuade our friends that to help the National Party to build us, independently from French cooperation, the Union of Italy, is not only to help Right and Justice, but to check ali usurp-ing Bonapartist schemes. We are the only anti-Bonapartist Party existing in Italy.
Ever faithfully yours
Joseph Mazzini.

My dear friend- one of my countrymen, Rudio, with a family and in prolonged omplete distress, wishes to go to the United States, there to enlist, if possible, of course in the Northern army. The journey there, however, is dear and I can do but little. He fancies that you can help me in your city or other and asks me to give him a line of introduction for you. I really cannot deny it. You might, perhaps, be of use through some American friends; and I hope that, if you can, you will do so. He has long suffered and I shall really be very gratefnl for any thing you will be able to do further his aim.
Ever faithfully yours
Joseph Mazzini.

Inquires made by me and answered by Mazzini:
Who Was Thibaldi or Tiboldi. What became of him.
A Lombard welleducated working man; employed in a higher situation than that of a sìmple worker. But I do not remember the branch. He was found in con-viction with two men, accused of having complotted against the lifc of the Emperor and one of whose turned thing's evidence and accused him. There was no attempi. nor beginning of action. Not even weapony found, except perhaps a pistol in pos-session of the denouncer. He is at Cayenne. The denouncer, after an equal indemn-ity, is known to have diaappeared.
