M. Campanella, Rollin, Massarenti were thoae condemned for contumace. Were they not? To what (pain)?
I really do not remember. Bnt on whenever I was going to the Continent I was leaving a journal Fund in James' hands for Italian purposes or help to exileB, I may have written the words.
Why was not M(azzini) tried with the Greco set.
I suppose because they did not want to have a jury, unavoidable in the Greco affair.
Has he received a citation to appear and when,
Never.

Dear Friend, it is with a deep regret and a sense of humiliation for Italy that I have heard the uncortesy, ungentlemanly, ungratefal conduct of an Italian, M. Negretti, towards you. I have written to him that he has been both ungentlemanly and ungratefal, and that he has offended me through the unwarranted use of my name. Let me apologize for him to you. If Negretti were different from what he is, I might proceed farther and insist on his apologizing to you. But N. is, in intellect tendencies and manners, belonging to that class of men whom I cali irresponsible . Forget him and be contented with knowing that I and "We ali of are, not only esteeming and loving you, but grateful to your efforts in our cause.
Ever faithfully yours
Joseph Mazzini.

Dear Friend, the sudden determination of Garibaldi is owing to a Government pressure on him the pressure is the consequence of Lord Clarendon's journey and of a cowardly concession to L(ouis) N(apoleon).
