Cariss.mo Garibaldi, La presente vi sarà rimessa dal Col. C. C. Hicks, che recasi in Italia nel desiderio di prender servizio, nell'armata della Indipendenza, onde mi faccio un piacere di raccomandarvelo, e facilitargli il modo di mettere ad effetto la sua disposizione. U Col. Hicks ha servito nell'armata delti S. Uniti, e quindi è abilitato alla carriera militare e non dubito, i suoi servizi potranno essere utili alla causa in comune.

Can any portion of my travelling expenses be refunded to me on my reach-ing Italy? I wish to know this, for I have only money enough to get to you. But our services will be given freely.
P. S, Please state explìcitly ifyou desire one or both of us, for my wife wishes to aid you. For reference as to our personal character, I am happy to refer you to Governor Joseph A. Wright, American Minister to the Court of Prussia. I would prefer paying for the telegraphic despatch rather than wait so long for a reply by letter.
