Committee Room, Philadelphia, Sept. 18,1860,J)
Your Excellency, With the most fervènt hopes that your efforts in behalf of Italy may continue successful, tee trust that our presumption in addressing you will be pardoned in consideration of the importance of the subject, in which tee take the greatest interest as Amerìcans and friends of Liberty.
Ai the instance afa large number of influential members of a secret society, whose ramificanons extend through several states of the Union, and composed of many inteUigent, welleducated young men, belonging to the most respectable, influential and wealthy families, we respectfuUy submit, if you have any plans by which we could be of use to you in your efforts far Italian or Hungarian Independence, you will be pleased to inforni us.
We would, with the greatest deferente, suggest in case you would wish either arms, money, etc. etc. that it would be advisable to send the proper papers autho-rizing their collection and transfer toyou.
It is unnecessary to state that we Amerìcans, as a people, look on sudi efforts as yours, and of your compatriots in the most favorable tight, and hail with the greatest pleasure, the overthrow of tyrants whose rule has been a curse to countries which need but a liberal government, to be included with the most prosperous on Earth; and the most eloquent language is insufficient to express our admiration of a course which will justly entitle Your Excellency to the tùie of Liberator of Italy.
This has been intentionally couched in rather vague terms, from reasons which will be apparent to ali.
The Chairman of this Committee (C. H. Roney) is authorized to moke any arrangements which may be necessary in case this receives your favorable consideration; and any communication which Your Excellency may be pleased to honor us with, addressed to C. Henry Roney, No. 1011 Vine Street, PhUadeU phia, Pennsylvania, U. S. will be received with pleasure.
In conclusion allow us to repeat our expressions of hope for the future of Italy: and express our most ardent hopes that you may long live to witness and to rejoice in the widely extended influences ofyour patriotic course.
We have the honor to be, with profound respect, your most obedient servants
