Militare in Italia . Nell'occasione si è tenuta la prima Assemblea della Società; dopo la relazione del Presidente uscente prof. Luraghi sull'attività svolta e sui programmi futuri e il rendiconto finanziario si è proceduto all'elezione del Consiglio direttivo e sono stati eletti i proli. Antonello Biagini, Piero Del Negro, Antonio Di Vittorio, Raimondo Luraghi, Massimo Mazzetti; nel Comitato Tecnico il dott. Alberto M. Arpino, presidente, il dott. Giu­seppe Conti, il prof. THE SOCIETY FOR ITAL1AN H1STOR1CAL STUDIES. The Business Meeting was called to order at 5 pjn. in the Vermont Room of the Washington Sheraton Hotel, December 29, 1987. Some thirty-five members were present. President Domenico Sella was unable to attend because of illness, but sent his best wishes.
The Executive Secretary-Treasurer, Alan J. Reinerman, gave his report. The Society ended 1987 with some 335 members, the largest total to date. Of these members, 248 joined by paying dues, 78 by subscribing to a journal, while nine both paid dues and subscribed. Most Italian journals seem to be arriving with reasonable regularity, though often behind schedule. However, the Belgian journal, Risorgimento, seems to have ceased publication, and will not be included in the Society's 1988 list. As of December 23, 1987, the Society's fìnancial situation was as follows: N.O.W. Account: 3440.70; Money Market Certificate (Marraro Prize Fund): 10,000.
The report of the Award and Citation Committee was read by Raymond Grew. The Award for the Best Unpublished Manuscript was given to Brendan M. Dooley, for his dissertation, Science, Politics, and Society in Eighteenth Century Italy . An Honor-able Mention was given to Lawrence Sondhaus for his dissertation, In the Service of the Emperor: Italians in the Austrian Armed Forces, 1914-1918 . No Citation was awarded this year. j , Vt
Blisa Carrillo, Chair of the Marraro Prize Commirtee, announced that the SIHS Marraro Award for this year was given to John L. Harper, America and the Reconstruction of Italy, 1945-1948 (Cambridge University Press).
Since the Chair of the Nominating Committee, Julius Kirshner, was not present, Alan J. Reinerman read his report. Anthony Molho was nominated for Vice-President; Thomas Kuehn was nominated for the vacant position on the Council. The nominations, along with that of Raymond Grew, current Vice-President, as President, were approved unanimously.
The Business Meeting was dissolved at 5:30 pjn. The Social Meeting followed, in the Vermont Room, until 7 pjn.
The Society's Academic Session, held at 9:30 on December 30, 1987, was: Alternatives for the Politicai Economy of Italy after World War II. Chair: Charles F. Delzell, Vanderbilt University. Italy Before the Miracle: Alternatives for its Politicai Economy after World War II Charles S. Maier, Harvard University; Comment: John L. Harper, Johns Hopkins University, Norman Kogan, University of Connecticut.

TORINO. Il Museo nazionale del Risorgimento italiano ha organizzato dal 26 febbraio al 20 marzo 1988 una Mostra di litografie a colori di Antonio Manganare Tra i promotori della manifestazione vi è anche l'Amministrazione provinciale di Benevento.
La Società italiana di Demografia storica ha tenuto, dal 3 al 5 dicembre 1987, un Convegno su La popolazione delle campagne in Italia nel XVII e XVIII secolo .
