602 Fuori d'Italia: il ricordo di colleghi e allievi
Italian (and non-Italian) historìans, and to make so many frìends, has been a most important part of my life. I also am most grateful to her, whose affection for England dated from her researches in London in the 1930s, for her interest in the activities of our recently founded Association for the Study of Modem Italy (ASMI).
I shall miss her gready in my future visits to Italy, and shall always treasure her memory.
Yours very sincerely

February 5, 1995 Dear Professor Ugolini,
I am shocked to know from your letter of January 16, 1995 the demise of Professoressa Emilia Morelli. I do not ha ve words to express my anguish and feelings. I have been associated with her since January 1974 when I joined her group to work for my doctoral degree on the topic Thought and Action of Mazzini in the building of New Italy and his influence on Indian Freedom Movement . She encouraged me first to learn Italian language and then to consult Mazzini's originai writings in Italian language. While in Rome, for more than two years, Professor Morelli gave me affection and guidance of a true teacher. She was a living example of perfection and punctuality. She never allowed me te feel a foreigner and always bestowed me love and affection. Without her guidance and encouragement I would not bave completed my work. She helped at every juncture of my work, never said no to my requests. She encouraged me to apply for the International scholarship of the Istituto Italiano per gli Studi Storici , Naples for the year 1975-76 which I was awarded.
Ever since my return from Rome in 1976 I have been regularly in contact with ber and she has been helping me in my research work ever since. She was always enquiring about my academic progress. She invited me to attend the Italian History Congress held at Bari in October 1994; it was my misfortune that I could not make it and lost an opportunity to meet ber. I really miss her very mudi.
I wept the whole night when I received the news of her demise.
May god rest her soul in peace and give strength to near and dear to bear her loss* We can now only cherish her memories.
Looking forward to be in touch with the Institute of Risorgimento in future.
With regards,
Yours sincerely,
GITA SRIVASTAVA
