HISTORICAL BIOGRAPHIES OF ITALIAN NATIONALIST
LEADERS IN INDIAN LITERATURE
DURING THE FREEDOM MOVEMENT OF INDIA
Italian Risorgimento and Italian patriots, Mazzini and Garibaldi, became the object of inspiration during the movement for independence of India from British rule. The article of Vidya Sagar1} and my book Mazzini and bis Impact on the National Movement of India2* and the various research papers 3) published in the Italian and Indian journals and also the papers * presented by Kenneth Ballhatchet, Giorgio Borsa, Giuseppe Flora, Enrico Fasana and others in the Conference organised by the Department of Politicai and Social Sciences at the University of Pavia, Italy on the topic Garibaldi, Mazzini and the Risorgimento in Atoakening of Asia and Africa, in November 1982, have highlighted this aspect of the Italian Risorgimento. It is generally held that the influence of Mazzini, Garibaldi and Risorgimento had been limited to móstly English educated Indians or at best in few languages spoken like Marathi and Bengali. In this paper an humble attempt has been made to clear this myth and to show that the influence of Italian nationalist leaders and Italian Risorgimento was felt by every nook and
